First edition. A good book with no dustjacket. Author's sixth work, but the first to deal with English character and setting. British Council bookplate on inside cover. Other marks on spine and inside rear cover suggest that this is an ex-library book Spine is bumped and a little slanted, with wear to both ends. Gilt is chipped, corners bumped. All in all a bit of a mess, but still an opportunity to own a first impression of an uncommmon book.
